Creating cooperative research for
Life Cycle Assessment
Presentation of SCORE LCA
New environmental challenges require companies to have dual competency: knowing how to do and knowing how to communicate.
However, it appears that the scientific field addressing these challenges, environmental quantification (including LCA and all complementary approaches to local environmental and health impact studies), remains, compared to academic disciplines, a field of activity that is still young and poorly structured. Companies therefore lack support and proximity networks.
Major French companies have therefore decided to join forces to create a cooperative research structure on LCA and environmental quantification, SCORE LCA. Three convictions drive this project:
- Companies must be active partners in research: their questions and concerns must help guide research, and the corresponding work (which will notably be carried out by research organizations) must address the challenges of our economy,
- Research actions outside the scope of competition (methodological development, state-of-the-art reviews, international monitoring, etc.) benefit from being pooled, both in terms of quality and cost,
- Companies commitment to environmental issues must be recognized and valued, both at the French and international levels.
EDF, ENGIE, RENAULT, TOTAL, VEOLIA with the support of ADEME and the RECORD Association, have therefore wished to support the creation of a cooperative research structure dedicated to work related to LCA and environmental quantification, governed by industrial companies with the support of a Scientific Board.
The SCORE LCA association thus aims to promote and organize collaboration between industrial, institutional and scientific actors in order to foster positive, shared and recognized evolution at the European and international level of the Life Cycle Assessment method and its practical implementation.
